Whale island (Moutohora in maori)is seen from most of the Eastern Bay of Plenty. It's something of an icon of sea and freedom.

Here,the island is framed by an arch of pohutokawa, a New Zealand tree that's known for it's craggy,gnarled trunks and branches. The ocean is the Pacific. Listen closely, and you might just hear the melody of the distant waves!
